Description
Boogie in the Barnyard is a lively rhythm & blues style piece in G major which will suit established beginner pianists at about the Grade 2 standard.
The right hand melody features a syncopated quaver - crotchet - quaver phrasing, which also occurs in both hands thoughout the piece. This piece is best played at a steady groove (about 112 bpm), so try to resist the temptation to get faster!
Once you can perform the piece all the way through (without stopping), try playing along with the accompanying backing track, which is excellent training for your musical 'ear'. If you have someone to control the volume of the backing track, try fading out the track whilst playing along, and then fading it back in again a few bars later. Did you keep the tempo?
Also, keep your eyes open for the staccato notes as these will help you to phrase the melody and feel the rhythm & blues 'groove'.
