Wrap up all cosy and warm with this peaceful arrangement of In The Bleak Midwinter for established beginners at about the Grade 2 level (ABRSM).
The lyrics of this Christmas carol are based on a poem written by English poet Christina Rossetti in 1872. Her mother, Gabrielle Rossetti, was from Vasto in Italy, but Christina was born and lived in London, writing a variety of romantic, devotional and children's poems. In 1906, Gustav Holst set her poem to music for the English Hymnal.
This arrangement of In The Bleak Midwinter is in F major and flows along at a steady andante tempo. A charming four-bar introduction sets the scene for both verses and there are some scrummy jazz chords and suspensions to enjoy within the smooth melodic phrases.
A play-along backing track comes with this piano sheet music featuring flute, guitar, percussion and upright jazz bass. There is also a slow tempo play-along backing for practising up to the marked tempo.
