Description

"Penta - what?"

Pentatonic means 'five notes' and is most commonly used to describe the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th notes of eitherĀ a major or a minor scale.

So in the key of C major, the pentatonic notes are C, D, E, G and A.

You'll be surprised just how often pentatonic notes are in the melodies for modern (and not-so-modern)Ā music. Examples include hundreds of songs from Katy Perry's 'California Girls' to U2's 'With or Without You'...

So here is Pentatonic Prairie,Ā a pop piano style pentatonic workout in the key of C major for pianists at about the Grade 1 ABRSM standard.

The left hand provides a basic chord accompaniment to the right hand's pentatonic melody, which moves gently up and down the prairie's rolling fields... There are also a couple of left hand pentatonic phrases to watch out for.

Pentatonic Prairie is best enjoyed with the play-alongĀ backing track which comes with the sheet music.

Great for beginners. Even the very early stage pianist can play along with the backing track – even if it’s only part of the right hand music.
