Plan B is a smooth Latin bossa nova in A minor ideal for established beginner pianists at about the Grade 2 ABRSM standard.
Bossa nova is a Brazilian music style which is less percussive than its more feisty ‘Samba’ cousin and features more emphasis on melody.
In this piece, the left hand features the classic dotted rhythm of a lilting bossa nova bass, which accompanies a lyrical and occasionally syncopated melody in the right hand.
This is my favorite. I have always loved Bossa Nova. It's a catchy tune and an awesome background track. My late elementary student will enjoy learning/playing this piece, and I love to play this piece just for fun." Irma
There are some chromatic moments in Plan B so do watch out for those accidentals! Also take care with the many staccato articulations, which give this bossa nova a ‘tango’ feel at times.
‘Plan B’ ends with a diminuendo ‘vamp’ (a repeating musical figure) and a ritenuto into the final chord.
The piano sheet music of Plan B comes with a fun play-along backing track (and a slower practice version), which will make you feel like you're performing in a smooth Latin ensemble!
