Hold on tight - here's Finger Zinger!
Finger Zinger is a jazz bebop style piano piece, featuring what is known in jazz circles know as the 'Rhythm Changes' chord progressions.
The phrase 'Rhythm Changes' refers to the chords used in George Gershwin's 'I Got Rhythm'. This chord progression is used in hundreds of jazz standards from the Swing and Bebop eras, from Count Basie to Charlie Parker.
"So what exactly is a Finger Zinger?", I hear you ask. Well, a 'Finger Zinger' is jazz slang for someone who plays very fast - quite often in the Bebop style.
This piece does indeed go at quite a lick, but it's really important to learn it at a SLOW tempo to start with. Then you'll be able to gradually speed it up, bit by bit. Once you can play the piece through slowly, try playing along with the slow tempo practice MP3 that comes with the sheet music, and then progress to the 'a tempo' backing track once you're ready!
Finger Zinger will suit pianists of about Grade 5 standard and is in the key of C major.
Have fun!
