Description

A Song of Remembrance - The Ukrainian Holodomor 1932-33

The Holodomor (meaning 'killing by hunger') was a man-made famine in the Ukrainian Soviet Social Republic in 1932 to 1933. Millions of Ukrainians died from starvation as a result of Joseph Stalin's Soviet policies. It is also known as the 'famine genocide in Ukraine'. However, it's amazing how many people don't know anything about it.

This piano sheet music is a song of remembrance for those that died in those horrific times - and a song of hope for those who remember.

The title Please Uncle Do Take Me To Kharkiv comes from a letter written to a university professor at Kharkiv (the capital of Ukraine at that time) by his niece Zina, pleading him to save her from starvation. It's a sad story.

This piano piece will suit advanced pianists at about the Grade 5+ (ABRSM) standard, and should be played in a flowing manner, with plenty of expression and emotion. Although it is a ballad, the tempo moves along fairly quickly at at 144 bpm.

A performance MP3 of this piece comes with the PDF piano sheet music.

Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022: All sales of this piece will be donated to charities who are supporting the people of Ukraine at this difficult time.

Wow! What an emotive piece! I have recently used this as sight reading for a grade 7 pupil and she has fallen in love with it. It is very moving and allows the player to perform with great expression.

I bought this to support Olly’s fundraising to help the people of Ukraine. This is a grade 5 piece and I have only just completed my grade 2 however I’ve managed to work through the first page and have high hopes I will get to the end. It is a very emotive piece of music, beautifully written and well worth having a go at. Never give up even if you think it’s beyond your capability!
