Description

Here's a mellow jazz waltz that's perfect for those snug evenings in front of the fire. By The Fireside will suit beginner pianists at the Grade 0-1 level (ABRSM) and is in the key of F major.

The rhythms in this piece include simple crochets, minims and dotted minims. However, playing along with the backing track will give the piece a more sophisticated jazz waltz feel. Each hand only plays one note throughout and the notes lie comfortably under the hands.

The phrasing is legato for most of the waltz, but keep an eye out for the rests in bars 26 and 28 where the music takes a contrasting 'breath'.

As usual, the piano sheet music for By The Fireside comes with three MP3 audio tracks:

  • Performance recording
  • Play-along backing track
  • Slow tempo practice backing track

I hope you enjoy the warm melody and gentle waltz rhythms of By The Fireside.

Lovely gentle piece for getting a pupil to really feel 3 in a bar – a great introduction to the key of F, changing hand position and passing of thumb under and fingers over.
