Jaipur Jamboree – World Music (Duet) – Beginner Primo (Grade 2)

Enjoy the musical delights of Jaipur Jamboree, a vibrant and joyful duet in the Bhangra music style. This duet is in A minor and the primo part will suit established beginners who have reached Grade 2 (ABRSM, AMEB or RCM).

Bhangra music is a blend of upbeat traditional music from the Indian subcontinent with western pop styles. It first came to prominence in the 1970s, particularly in the UK by Punjabi immigrants who started to fuse their native folk music with modern instrumentation.

The primo part of Jaipur Jamboree is played in unison octaves, one octave higher than written. When first learning the piece, try practising each hand separately (and slowly!) before bringing them together.

The quaver quarter notes have a swing to them, just like in the jazz swing style. Have listen to the performance track and try tapping out the fast quarter note swing pulse. Listen carefull and you'll be able to hear the percussion playing this rhythm in the recording.

This piano sheet music also comes with a full performance recording, play-along backing track (for primo and both players), and a slow-tempo practice backing for the primo player.

Jaipur Jamboree is also a celebration of the Elephant Festival, which is held in Jaipur every year on 'Holi festival' day, usually in March. If you visit Jaipur you'll get to see a colourful and vibrant celebration featuring elephant polo and dance routines!
