Step into the 'Roaring 20s' with this jaunty piano duet for four hands, inspired by the P.G.Wodehouse 'Jeeves and Wooster' stories.
What Ho Jeeves! is in the key of D minor and moves along fairly quickly in 'cut common time' - a 2-in-a-bar feel, which is characteristic of 20s swing music. The secondo player acts as the 'rhythm section' keeping a steady stride style 'vamp' while the primo player presents the cheeky melody in octaves.
This piece will suit primo players at about the Grade 1 (ABRSM) standard.
Keep a close eye on the dynamics and if you can, try to swing the secondo part quavers so that they have a tied-triplet feel:
What Ho Jeeves! comes with a play-along backing track featuring the secondo part, plus bass and drums rhythm section.
As always, start slowly (check out the slow tempo practice backing) and gradually increase the tempo.
I hope you have as much fun playing What Ho Jeeves as I did composing it!

Thanks to Jana Polianovskaia and Annelene for such a fun performance - with percussion section accompaniment!

This is a great beginner piece to use as an introduction to the world of backing tracks. I have used this with pupils of varying abilities and all of them love it!
