Description

I got the Burnt Toast Blues - oh yeah!...

Burnt Toast Blues is a catchy swing number for beginner (primo) players at about the Grade 1 (ABRSM) standard.

The primo player starts off the whole piece with a 3 quaver 'pickup' into the melody, which is written in treble and bass clefs - but played two octaves higher.

The written quaver quarter-notes are swung in the jazz style and there are some syncopated rhythms to keep you on your toes. Try saying "badoo-bedoooooo-bee-doo" and you'll get the idea!

Burnt Toast Blues comes with two playalong swing backing tracks:

  • For one player (primo): bass, drums and guitar 'rhythm' section plus the secondo part.
  • For two players: bass, drums and guitar 'rhythm' section

Watch out for the dynamics (mp on the repeat) and also the staccato and accented notes, which will help the swing rhythm to 'swing'. I've also written some 'Burnt Toast Blues' lyrics for a bit of fun!

Hope you enjoy playing 'Burnt Toast Blues' - I'd love to hear how you get on with it!

The title is just so funny! While playing you can almost smell the burnt toast… Great fun, for all 4 hands. Play it quickly, so you can still rescue your toast!!!

I taught this to one of my pupils who had just taken her ABRSM prep test. She absolutely loved it and her family did too! Great catchy rhythms and funny words,…an absolute pleasure to teach. We opened my last pupils concert with this, it really helped to put everyone at ease.
    Thank you Olly !
