Time for a little musical fishing expedition? This piano jazz-swing number in the key of C major is great for beginners starting to explore jazz, and features some fishy boogie-woogie in the 'middle 8' section.
The left hand provides a walking bass accompaniment for the opening melody, and then moves on to a simple 'boogie woogie' style fifths and sixths pattern. Both hands play unison octaves to emphasise the melody at several points during the piece.
Hook, Line and Sinker is written for beginner pianists at about the Grade 1 (ABRSM) standard and features jazz swing rhythms (swinging quavers). Here's a link to my free e-book A Brief Intro to Impro that has a section to help practice this.
To get the hang of the right hand rhythm, try saying, "hook, line-and-sinker!". Remember to watch out for the changing dynamics, especially middle section.
It would be great to hear what you think of Hook, Line and Sinker. Please leave a review, or tell your friends by sharing this page - thanks!
