Inspired by Australian wildlife photos taken by my sister-in-law (thanks Sarah!), 'Kookaburra' is a cute little piece in F major, written for pianists at about the Grade 1 standard (ABRSM).
The first few bars of the happy right hand melody lies in a comfortable 5-finger range accompanied by a crotchet 'Alberti Bass', which is type of 'broken' arpeggio pattern often found in Classical music. The melody then moves to the left hand and finishes with both hands moving in unison together with a cheeky left hand Alberti Bass 'echo'.
'Kookaburra' is a gentle piece and is relatively short at about 30 seconds playing time - similar to most of the Associated Board (ABRSM) Grade 1 pieces. I've suggested some fingerings and simple dynamics, and do watch out for the staccato notes, which give this piece it's distinctive character.
I look forward to hearing what you think about 'Kookaburra'. Please leave a review - thank you!
