Get into the calypso rhythms with Taxi Cab Calypso!
Calypso is a type of Afro-Caribbean music that came from Trinidad and Tobago around the mid 1900s. It features lilting rhythms which can be traced back to African origins.
Taxi Cab Calypso is in the key of C major and will suit established beginner players at about the Grade 2 (ABRSM) standard. A syncopated rhythm in the right hand occurs throughout the piece and also featured are 'crushed' notes (acciacaturas) on the blues notes - the flattened third, fifth or seventh notes of the scale.
Acciacaturas should be played as quickly as possible - with a little overlap - just before the main note to which it is attached. This has the effect of a 'twang' like sound of a guitar as the note resolves.
A cheeky backing track comes with this sheet music, which is great fun to play along with.
There's also a slow tempo practice backing track to help you get the hang of Taxi Cab Calypso at a slower pace.
