Welcome to Tin Pan Alley - home of American popular music in the early 20th century! This piano sheet music in F major is a jazzy little number with swung quavers and a 'ragtime' feel. It will suit intermediate pianists at the Grade 3 (ABRSM) standard.
The left hand features a 'stride piano' style with lots of syncopated (off-beat) rhythms in both hands to enjoy.
Between about 1880 and 1950, New York was the place to be if you were an American popular music publisher. 'Tin Pan Alley' was the nickname given to West 28th Street in Manhattan where most of the publishers were based.
After the 'Head' (the opening theme), the piano 'Middle 8' section moves to the relative minor with a smooth walking bass left hand accompanying a flowing right hand melody.
Watch out for the short 'staccato' notes throughout the piece - especially in quaver phrases, which will really help the piece to 'swing'.
I hope you enjoy a stroll down Tin Pan Alley!
