Feeling snap happy? Check out Red Snapper, a hot jazzy swing numberĀ for intermediate players at about the Grade 3 standard (ABRSM).
This piece includes a good work out for the left hand with some classic jazz chords and progressions.
Red Snapper begins with a percussive 'call' riff in both hands answered by a 'response' in the left hand. Ā A walking bass line then takes us to anotherĀ 'call and response' section, but this time the right hand gets to play the 'response' featuring snazzy blues 'crush' notes.
The eighth note quavers in this number are swung in the usual jazz style. To get 'in the swing' and for a great warm up, try clapping along with the rhythms in the performance recording without looking at the music - it doesn't have to be exactly right, just get the feel before moving on to the keyboard.

Red Snapper comes with a groovy play-along backing track and a slower tempo practice backing.
