Serve up a tasty mix of up-tempo jazz and blues swing with Jambalaya Jump, a perfect recipe for aspiring jazz pianists at the intermediate level (Grade 3 ABRSM).
Jambalaya is a yummy Louisiana Creole dish with Spanish and French influences. Just as in cooking, jazz is also a fusion of elements from many cultures.
Jambalaya Jump will get those creative juices flowing, as not only is there a fabulous play along backing track to enjoy, but also an ad-lib improvisation to get your teeth into!
You'll find some written 'guide notes' in each bar of the improvisation section, but to avoid indigestion, try to keep it simple! If in doubt, choose one or two notes in each bar and make up a rhythm while first playing along with the backing track.
Once you are in the groove, try adding in the left hand chords to accompany your improvisation (you could also try simple rhythms in the left hand, rather than just held notes).
Be sure to check out the staccato phrasing in Jamabalaya Jump, which will help the piece to 'swing' along nicely.
This sheet music also comes with a slower tempo practice backing to help you get into the swing before moving up to the marked tempo.
Have fun with this piece and bon appetit!

A happy-feeling piece! Great the opportunity for experimenting with improvisation at the third page.
