Description

Yeah, Guess I Just Got The Blues...

Here's a fun bluesy number in F major to suit pianists at about the Grade 4 (ABRSM) standard. Guess I Got The Blues moves along with a bluesy 'mooch' and features a triplet 12-8 feel with swung quavers.

Note that at this slow tempo, the jazz swung quavers can be played nearly exactly like tied triplets:swung quavers

You'll also spot some fancy little 'blues' embellishments based on the 'blue notes' of the flattened 3rd and 5th notes of the scale of F major. Have a listen to the performance track to get the idea of how these grace notes should be played.

Guess I Got The Blues features two variations after the opening theme. Remember to keep the left hand 'smooth and cool' in the 3rd variation, and watch out for the short staccato notes throughout the piece as they will help you with the feel of the right hand's jazz-phrasing.

It's really tempting to rush this piece, but keep it nice and steady - think of a laid-back chilled-out rainy Sunday afternoon...

Once you've got the hang of Guess I Got The Blues, you might like to try the play-along backing track, which comes with the sheet music.

Have fun playing the blues!
