Description

Going For Gold is an exciting Olympic-themed rock duet in G major for intermediate primo players at about the grade 3 standard (ABRSM).

The tempo is a 'driving rock' 144 bpm and the piece starts straight out of the blocks with a high energy opening melody in the primo part, played an octave higher than written.

Quavers (eighth notes) are played straight and keep a lookout for staccato phrasing and dynamics, which will bring you into a medal-winning position!

'Going For Gold!' is written in four main sections. After the opening theme, we move on to the first variation, which is almost like a 'conversation' between the accompanying secondo and primo.

The third section features an exciting unison pattern in both parts, interspersed with surprise sfz 'hits' to thrill and delight your audience. We then return to the main theme, crossing the finishing line with stylish hemiola accents and a "going for gold!" shout out - you could even rehearse your audience to shout this out at the end and finish in style!

This piece is even more fun when you play along with the MP3 backing track, professionally recorded with drums, bass and electric piano accompaniment. Also included in this sheet music download is a slow tempo practice backing for the primo player.

I hope you have fun and enjoy Going for Gold.
