Hoist the mainsail for Sail Away, a romantic sea-faring ballad in the key of A major for intermediate pianists at about the grade 3 standard (ABRSM).
This piece is played con Ped. to sustain the rising arpeggios of the left hand. This provides a smooth and undulating accompaniment for the elegant melody in the right hand.
As we approach the middle section it's all hands on deck for a haunting key modulation with dynamics rising and falling with the waves. The original melody then returns and we're plain sailing all the way home.
Sail Away is exhilarating to play with the hypnotic rhythms of the MP3 backing track (a slow version is also available). Both these play-along track downloads are included with the sheet music.
